Canon turns 2!

Praise God for his provision! I am pleased to announce that Canon has celebrated his 2 year old birthday. People always seem to ask, "Does prayer really work?" Well, for all of you who make be skeptics, look at the little boy in the picture. He is living proof that prayer does work.

God is so good! God is so good!

Mary Watkins

I woke this Saturday morning with a sense of purpose. My mom's coworkers wife has been in the hospital this week with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Yesterday my mom went to visit her at the hospital-today I too would drop by for a visit.

I bought a card at Wal-Mart last night with the words "Praying God's Comfort" inscribed on the front. As I was getting dressed to visit this lady, whom I have never met, a verse came running through my head. 2 Corinthians 1:3, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles..." So I wrote this inside the card 2 Cor.1:3-7 to be exact. Except I never signed her name to the front of the card because I could not remember if her name was Penny or Peggy. I thought to myself, "It doesn't matter, I will just give it to her."

As I was driving over to HEB hospital, I had this peace wash over me. I knew that although I was there to bring this lady comfort, it would actually be my life that would be comforted today. I press the 2 button in the elevator and head to the "terminally ill" floor of HEB. As I was walking to room 210, I caught glimpse of a lady in room 214. I thought to myself, "Bless her heart she is all alone."

Come to find out room 210 is empty-praise God Penny is at home resting! I turn around guessing my work is done, but as I was leaving I passed room 214 once again. This time I was able to get a better look at all the monitors and iv's her poor body is strapped to. Down to my car I walk, I put my keys in the ignition-ready to pull out, when the lady in room 214's face crosses my mind. What if this is the person I was to give this card to instead of Penny? I never wrote Penny's name on the card since I couldn't remember if it was Penny or Peggy. I take my keys out of the ignition, step out of the car and head once again to the 2nd floor, the floor for the terminally ill.

As I walk past 214 there is a doctor in her room. So I proceed to the nurses station. I explain to this nurse my reason for being here and wanted to know if she could pass this card to the lady in room 214 instead. The nurse, with tears in her eyes replies, "She too is a very strong Christian and could use a little bit of comfort today. Her family has yet to come see her and she has been a little teary this morning. Why don't you give it to her, the doctor will be out soon? " Then the nurse turns away-leaving me no chance to protest her request.

I walk into room 214. "Hi, my name is Susan and I have originally came today to see a lady in room 210 but she has already left. I have this card that I believe God intended for you to have. Do you mind if I share it with you?"

The lady in room 214, fumbles to open the card, after she has opened and read. She reaches for my hand and says, "Isn't God good!" (I am dumbfounded because "Isn't God good" is what I always say!) I smile into her big blue eyes and say "Yes, He is!"

The lady in room 214, is named Mary Watkins-member of Birdville Church of Christ, dying of breast cancer that has spread through her body. God knows when she will be going home-either home to heaven or to her house. Maybe her true home will come first. But what struck me as I was leaving is the way in which our little worlds collided. I on a mission to see someone else-while she was praying her family would come for a visit. I guess today her family did come to visit-her spiritual family. As I left, I told her I would be back on Monday to see her again.

When I got to my car, I began praising God for orchestrating our meeting. Mary told me today I would be blessed by doing God's will today. Truer words have never been spoken.

God is good! God is good!

Learning The Art of Contentment

"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances."
Philippians 4:11

This verse should say "I wish I could learn to be content whatever the circumstances." I want so badly to be one of those people who just enjoy life no matter what life brings their way! But I have learned that contenment is not in me. I believe one day soon though it will be. Why? Because God continues to put my life in time out! It is almost like I am the two year old fighting constantly with my wants versus my parents. God will continue to teach me the art of contentment even if it means I have to sit just a little bit longer.

I have come to realize how blessed I have been though during this learning process. God places friends, family and my sweet husband in my life to be that constant reminder that I am trying, once again to move beyond today. My sweet husband will say, "You taking medicine or something?" when I begin to get a little antsy! This serves as my little reminder to slow down, enjoy the view.

My prayer for my life is that I will savor each new day as they come. That I will be happy in the moment not looking ahead but enjoy the here and nows of today. I pray that I will live my life to the fullest-whatever life brings my way. I pray that I will tackle the hills and valleys as they come resting in God's will for my life. I know God has a plan for me but today is not the day for Him to reveal the plan.

"Lord, thatnk you for showing me that your plan is perfect. Thank you for surrounding me with loved ones who help me stay focused on the task at hand. Lord I know you have great plans for me, help me to be patient and wait until you choose to reveal the next step in my life. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you are going to do!"

God bless

"He has made everything beautiful in His time."

Ecclesiastes 3:11

I was reminded again of this verse this weekend during a conversation with my 8 year old niece, Hayley. Not too much longer until she and her parents will be settled up the road from Jeff and I. They are in the process of moving from California to Texas! I praise God for his provision in bringing them this far. But until thier house is built they are living in Austin with my brother in law. Poor Hayley is so ready to be close to everyone. She is a lot like me since she thrives when she is around family.

The girls of the family had gone out to eat lunch in celebration of Maudie's (Jeff's grandmother) birthday. We had such a good time. But then it was time to say goodbye. Hayley's big brown eyes misted over immediatley. She was not ready to say goodbye. "Why do I have to go back to Austin?" Amy, her mom, tried to assure her that it would only be for a short while, three more weeks in fact and she would be settled in her own home, here in Fort Worth.

As Hayley and I were walking out to the car, we held hands and talked about how fast three weeks would actually go by. I said to her, "God has made everything beautiful in it's time!" She looked up at me-processing what I just said and then smiled. "That's right, God does make everything beautiful in it's time!" We then began to discuss how she needed to just have a good three weeks in Austin and make sure that she spend as much time with her Uncle Matt. I can guarantee she is doing just that-since the last I talked to her she was going outside to look for frogs in Uncle Matt's backyard.

Often times we want to rush ahead of God's timing in our lives. But like this verse says, "God has made everything beautiful in His time." I don't want my life to be focused on what is coming up next. I want to focus on what I can do today. God calls us to take it one step at a time and not to worry about what lies ahead.

Have a great day!

God bless-
